Agender people do not feel they align with any gender, or feel a distinct lack of gender. Being asexual is not a requirement of agender people, as gender identity and sexuality are unrelated.
Agender people sometimes use singular 'they' pronouns as well as a number of other gender-neutral pronoun groupings, instead of he/she, to alleviate social dysphoria. For example;
- They walked to the store.
- That hat belongs to them
- Their coat got wet in the rain.
However, other agender people do present as masculine or feminine, and may use gendered pronouns if they prefer (he/she).
Gender nullification surgery is one procedure used almost exclusively by agender people, because some desire a body that lacks sex characteristics. Chromosome therapy is currently being studied by researchers at UC Berkeley. This attempts to nullify those chromosomes which stereotypically identify the individual by a gender, thus further nullifying the internal sex characteristics of their bodies.
