Agender is a term that describes people who lack a gender. (Some other terms that may or may not be used as synonyms are genderless, gender neutral, non-binary etc.) Whether DFAB or DMAB (Designated female/male at birth), someone can still identify as agender.

Agender people can have any sexual orientation, as sexual orientation is independent of gender identity.

Some agender individuals may want to get surgery to modify their bodies in a way that they would be more comfortable with, while others don't experience this desire. Gender nullification surgery is one procedure used almost specifically by genderless people.

Agender people sometimes use different pronouns to the common he/she that we hear on a daily basis. However, other agender people can and do use he/she pronouns. Some examples of gender neutral pronouns are:

THEY/THEM. Examples:

  • They walked to the store.
  • That hat belongs to them
  • Their coat got wet in the rain.
  • They emailed themselves the file.

XE/XIR. Examples:

  • Xe walked to the store.
  • That hat belongs to Xem
  • Xir coat got wet in the rain.
  • Xe emailed xirself the file.

The pronounciation of Xe is widely debated, so it's common for the individual who chose the pronouns  to decide how they should be pronounced.

Mostly, people will either pronounce the X in Xe as the English letter "Z" (as in "Z-ee") or alternativly, some choose to have it pronounced as a "Ks" sound (as in "Ks-ee"). As if you're pronouncing the word "Kiss" without any vowels.

There are, of course, many other pronouns people choose to use as well. A few examples being ai/ain/aire/aiself and thon/thon/thons/thonself, however there are many others.

Aside from pronouns, some people prefer the use of "it" as a sort of pronoun. This should never be used without permission as many find it degrading or dehumanising.

Some individuals even choose to avoid pronouns all together, and ask for nothing but their name to be used in every possible context.
