Puberty blockers are a kind of hormone therapy which can be used to delay puberty in children diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. The purpose of puberty blockers is to allow children to age until they are old enough to make an informed decision about their gender identity. By preventing puberty, this treatment prevents the development of sex characteristics which can be a major source of dysphoria and require medical treatment to remove later in life.

Puberty blockers are typically administered in the form of a series of injections or an implanted device. Puberty blockers should not be confused with HRT, which many transgender people undergo regardless age.
