Top surgery refers to any form of gender confirmation surgery which affects the chest and breast tissue. Top surgery may be a part of medical transition.
Common forms of top surgery include:
- Masectomy - breast removal.
- Male chest reconstruction - reshaping of the chest to create a more masculine structure. Normally performed alongside and after masectomy.
- Breast augmentation surgery - to enlarge the size of the breasts.
