Transmisogyny is discrimination against trans women and other transfeminine people. It arises from a combination of transphobia and sexism.

One of the most visible examples of transmisogyny is the belief that trans women are all homosexual men who cross-dress in order to lure heterosexual men into sex. This belief ignores that trans women are actually women, and are able to have diverse sexual orientations. The portrayal of trans women as "dangerous" results in an increased risk of violence and sexual assault.

Other examples of transmisogyny include:

  • Being stereotyped as sex workers, resulting in police harassment.
  • Being expected to strictly adhere to gender roles in order to "prove" their femininity.
  • Having their existence treated as a sexual fetish.
